Oily Skin Care Tips For The Truly Shine Challenged
If you're here looking for some oily skin care tips, welcome. Usually when you're looking for a solution it's not a question of, "Do I have oily skin?". The question is, "How oily is it and what can I do to fix it?"
As a teenager, I had very oily skin. I can still
remember when I was working at the jewelry counter at J.C. Penney's back in good 'ol Chillicothe, Ohio.
A woman and her daughter came up to the counter and commented on what
nice skin I had. The comment ended something like, "I just love the look
of a shiny face"! Ugh! I'd have given anything at that moment to be
UNDER the counter.
I remember also trying anything and everything to dry my skin out. There
were soaps, over-the-counter cleansers, harsh astringents. And surely I
didn't need any moisturizers, I had oily skin, right? Wrong.
Oily skin still needs the the basic steps just like the other skin types,
cleansing, toning and moisturizing. With oily skin, the more you try to
dry it out, the more oil your skin will produce.
It's a vicious circle.
Here are some oily skin care tips:
Read the labels- The important thing to remember with oily skin is to use
non-oil based products. All an oil-based skin care product will do for
someone with oily skin is clog the pores and that leads to break-outs.
Be gentle with your skin. Hard scrubbing will get those oil glands working
overtime.
Exfoliate- It's the only way to clear off the dead surface skin cells that
tend to clog pores. Once or twice a week will do the trick. Many products
absorb excess oil and are specially designed for oily skin. This should
keep break-outs to a minimum.
Speaking of break-outs, when the inevitable pimple does appear, I have
two words of advice. "Don't pick". Picking at a blemish will only cause
scarring and make the problem worse. Ask me how I know. Been there,
done that, not pretty.
How do you tell if you have oily skin? If you look in the mirror first
thing in the morning and you can see your own reflection in the shine on
your forehead, you just might have oily skin. Only kidding.
Seriously
though, after you wash your face, wait about an hour then take a tissue
and press it to your face. If you were able to blot a lot of oil, the
truth is in the tissue. That's oily skin.
Luckily today there are skin care products available that give oily skin the
moisture it needs. Products exist today that combine natural botanicals and
high-tech science. These skin care products are created by scientists who
have an understanding of your skin type and what you need to look your absolute
best.
